GCSE Geography trip to Epping Forest

On Monday and Wednesday this week, the whole GCSE geography cohort of 120 students visited the Field Study Council Centre in Epping Forest to carry out their River Field Investigation which makes up part of their GCSE.

Whilst there, students looked at how Loughton Brook (a small river that runs through Epping Forest) changes as it moves downstream. On these days students, working in small groups, collected the primary data that will allow them to investigate how characteristics such as width, depth, velocity and bedload size change downstream.

The collected data will now be analysed back in the classroom. As well as the River Investigation, students looked at the characteristics and management of the ancient deciduous woodland ecosystem.
