Headteacher's Tour

We welcome prospective parents and students to visit the school during our open evenings and open mornings which take place between September and Christmas each year, details of the specific dates are published during the summer term.

Buildings and Interiors

The school has invested many millions of pounds in new buildings and facilities and in July 2023 completed its decade-long campus redevelopment project.

Over the last 150 years, seven buildings (including a Grade II listed former county court and the Tabernacle Chapel) had been brought together in one school campus around a central courtyard. The result was a hotch-potch of spaces, increasingly under-utilised and inefficient.

As a result of our ambitious campus project, the less suitable buildings were replaced with modern, high-quality general and specialist teaching facilities and improved the efficiency of the remaining buildings through targeted and sensitive refurbishment.

Our new cohesive campus provides the school with facilities which reflect and support its commitment to excellence; a bigger and better school for future generations on the same tight inner-city site.

The school now has, in addition to its existing facilities:

  • a newly-built Science Centre with 8 science laboratories and a visitors’ entrance
  • a partially subterranean three-court sports hall in the courtyard
  • a Creative Arts Centre housed in a stunning 19-century chapel conversion with a performing arts theatre, 6 music practice rooms, a sound-proof recording studio, a music tech classroom, two music classrooms and two art studios
  • Mathematics and humanities building
  • beautifully landscaped central courtyard.
