About the Course
The maths department aims to help each students achieve their full potential, stretching the most able students as well as supporting those students for whom mathematics is not their strongest subject.
The department runs weekly extension classes for Key Stage 3 (Years 7 & 8), GCSE and for sixth form mathematicians. Outside lessons, pupils take part in the UKMT Mathematics competition and our students have been very successful.
The approach to teaching mathematics at Central Foundation Boys’ is based firmly on the belief that it is a fascinating subject in itself, but also that it is the language of science and technology and that it is a vital tool in our every day lives. Mathematical training disciplines the mind, develops logical and critical reasoning, and develops analytical and problem-solving skills to a high degree. The Department places a considerable emphasis, at all levels, on the practical applications of mathematics.
The Department is fortunate to have well-qualified teachers, who love their subject, delivering the curriculum and we operate as a very strong team. The approach the department takes in developing young mathematicians is excellent.
