On Tuesday 12th May, a group of Year 9 students, who were selected based on their interest in Drama, attended the Picadilly Theatre, to go behind the scenes at the famous West End musical “Moulin Rouge.”
During this masterclass, students were able to watch short extracts from the musical and then learn about the technical aspects of the production and the crew that make it all come to life. They heard from stage managers, experts within automation, lighting, sound, wardrobe, wigs, hair & makeup.
Students were impressed by the volume of employees within the technical team who make a performance on this scale possible. During the Q&A, these professionals shared some of their routes into the technical theatre industry, which was interesting to hear. Can you believe, the lighting department are maintaining and operating 3,500 light bulbs?!
Thank you to the Picadilly Theatre for hosting us for this insightful visit.
