After progressing to Finals Day (joining our Year 7, 8, and 10 Football Teams), the Year 9 team faced a challenging draw against SMMA, COLAI, and Acland Burghley. Two commanding 2-0 victories over COLAI and Acland Burghley ensured we entered the final game without having conceded a single goal throughout the entire tournament. Although we couldn’t maintain a clean sheet in the final match, a hard-fought 1-1 draw was enough to crown us champions. Senya (3), Shirley, and Chandler found the back of the net across the competition. A special mention goes to our goalkeeper and captain, Wain, who has been an inspirational leader both on and off the pitch.
The team carried this momentum into the London Cup, with goals from Shirley (2), Fadojutimi, and Chandler securing a win against a well-organised and resilient Archbishop Tenison team at Market Road last week. In the National Cup, an enthralling match against Sydney Russell saw us come from 2-0 down to clinch a thrilling 5-3 victory. Goals from Abakpa, Shirley (2), Senya, and Dedinca ensured Central’s spot in the third round.
This team is brimming with potential and boasts excellent squad depth. We are optimistic about progressing to the later stages of both competitions and bringing even more silverware back to Central Foundation.
