On Thursday 1st February, 27 Year 9 Art students visited the Courtauld gallery and university at Somerset House for an inspiring day engaging in visual analysis, art history activities and considering what a degree in Art & Design might look like. The spring sun was shining on our students in this historic setting!
At the gallery, students were supported to “read” the impressive historic portraits, considering colour, background, composition, shade, symbols and facial expression.
This elicited some very thoughtful responses from the students.
Students also engaged in a research group task linked to the Courtauld’s most famous works of art, they then had to present these and their creative drawings inspired by the art works to the rest of the group.
Thanks to the Courtauld for organising such a brilliant day.
