On Thursday 20th March, a group of 30 of our Year 8 students recently embarked on an enriching educational trip to Dr Johnson’s House, a historic museum near Fleet Street dedicated to the famous writer and lexicographer, Samuel Johnson. Exploring the beautifully preserved 18th-century townhouse, students gained fascinating insights into Johnson’s life, his work on the English Dictionary, and the literary world of his time.
Following this visit, the students participated in a public speaking workshop back at school, led by The Speaker’s Trust. Through engaging activities and expert guidance, they developed confidence in speaking, improved their communication skills, and learned techniques for delivering compelling speeches. The workshop encouraged students to express their ideas with clarity and conviction, making it a truly valuable experience.
This combination of literary history and practical skill-building made for a memorable and rewarding couple of days, leaving students both informed and inspired.
