On Thursday 6th March, the first group of Year 8 students went to Hackney City Farm. The trip was a reward for all those students had 100% attendance, an outstanding behaviour record and top homework completion. The second group of students will visit the farm shortly. The theme of the trip was ‘Green Environments in Urban Landscapes’, and throughout the trip students were prompted to think about the benefits of green spaces in cities.
Students made insightful observations around the importance of the farm for recreation, creation of jobs and volunteer opportunities and outdoor learning. One student, Jayden, shared that green space was needed for London as a critical carbon sink, to “remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere”.
The students had a fantastic morning out exploring the farm and local park and pond area, with some newborn piglets as the highlight!
