On Tuesday 21st April, Central Foundation’s Year 8 Football Team lifted the Corrigan Shield after beating St Mary Magdalene Academy 3-1.
The boys made a bright start, with Cole’s delicate lob drifting narrowly past the post. A flurry of half-chances followed before SMMA began to grow into the game and caused problems from a number of corners. However, the CFBS team stood firm, and a brilliantly worked counter-attack down the left-hand side saw Ethan M glide past two players before smashing the ball into the top corner. At 1-0 at half-time, the lead was fully deserved.
The message at the break was clear from Mr Richards: start on the front foot and go for the second. The boys responded perfectly. A lovely through ball from George was met by Dylan, who calmly slid the ball past the onrushing goalkeeper. Soon after, 2-0 became 3-0 following a neat interchange between Kurt and George, with Kurt smashing the ball in off the underside of the crossbar from 25 yards. Jubilant scenes followed with around 12 minutes left to play.
SMMA did pull one back to set up a nervous finish, but the boys managed the game superbly in the closing stages to see out the win and lift the trophy.

Congratulations to all students involved — a true “Central-like” team performance.
