On Tuesday 23rd May, Our Year 7 & 8 A and B cricket teams headed to Essex to compete in our annual fixture against Chigwell school.
Year 7 & 8 A Team vs Chigwell
After winning the toss and electing to bowl, Central managed to take several quick wickets to reduce Chigwell to 19-6. Milo & Stanley with 4 wickets and 2 wickets respectively, managed to blow away their top order. Some late order runs meant that Chigwell dragged themselves up to 66 all out. Adam also picking up 2 wickets and a terrific bowling and fielding display.
Having never previously won against Chigwell, Central regularly lost wickets whilst trying to close in on the total. 33-4 soon became 48-9 before captain Milo and Badis put on an essential 9th wicket partnership to see Central over the line. Milo finishing on 28 not out with a selection of excellent cricket shots throughout his innings.
An impressive win and the first time we have ever won a cricket game at Chigwell.
Year 7 & 8 B Team vs Chigwell
Despite a spirited performance from our B team, they unfortunately finished 17 runs short in a high scoring game. Batting first, Chigwell finished on 128-4. A brilliant wicket keeping display from Alfie coupled with outstanding bowling from Ayyan & captain Yves restricted Chigwell on what was a pitch with a very short boundary.
In response, Central got off to a strong start with Alfie (22) & Tyler (12) opening the batting. Unfortunately, from there we lost wickets at regular intervals and despite a great partnership between Yves & Obead (37), Central finished 17 runs short.
A terrific effort from all students involved, with 14 out of the 22 students competing in their first ever game of cricket.
