On Wednesday 23rd September, Central Foundation’s Year 13 Biologists conducted ecological fieldwork at Greenwich with the Field Studies Council.

The students applied their classroom knowledge and practical skills to collect data on the effects of human activity on ecosystems, through the use of various sampling techniques.

Later, students were tasked to statistically analyse of their data to identify correlations between human interventions and plant diversity.

Students also discussed sustainable and ethical solutions to climate change as well as the importance of maintaining biodiversity for food security, housing and drug development.
This trip was a valuable opportunity for students to experience biology beyond the classroom and deepen their understanding of ecological sampling and data analysis. Many students also developed interest in perusing ecology as a possible career path.
