On Wednesday 18th September, our Year 13 A Level Science students spent a glorious day walking through Epping Forest to the Field Studies Centre to complete part of the practical element of their coursework.
The A Level course has core practicals that are essential to developing skills and knowledge related to the theory- the visit allows students to experience how working in the field can develop and extend their knowledge as well as highlight how biologists collect, process and analyse data.
Students spent time using biological keys to identify specimens, using a range of various scientific equipment, and considering the environmental factors that affect the distribution of flora and fauna.
The weather was amazing, and the plants and trees were thriving, and still showing lots of green growth, which will probably be in stark contrast to our upcoming November visit! Look out for an update on our Day 2 visit in December.
