On Monday 16th and Friday 20th September, the Year 11 geographers carried out their fieldwork in Epping Forest, with a focus on Loughton Brook, a tributary that ultimately leads into the River Thames.

Students completed river width, depth and velocity measurements at three sites along the river and compared the sediment characteristics to see how the river changed from its source to its mouth.

Despite the low water levels in the river, the students were exemplary in modelling the river as it would typically flow and enjoyed exploring the woodland in a few rare days of warm, autumn sunshine.
