Our Year 10 students had the opportunity to visit Buro Happold, an Engineering consultancy based very close to our school on Thursday 17th July. They enjoyed an office tour, a presentation on the Engineering Sector, Career Pathways and Engineering in the Climate Crisis. Later on they participated in a Bridge Building competition workshop. The challenge was to build a bridge for a village in Cambodia whose old bridge had collapsed. This bridge was a vital lifeline, helping farmers get their produce to market and children get to school.

In the photos, you’ll see the students’ bridge creations. Most were strong enough to hold the weight of the “spoon people” (our test passengers!). Buro Happold were impressed with the strength of the students’ bridges and awarded prizes!

Thank you to Buro Happold for hosting us – this day gave our students a valuable insight into careers in engineering.
