Our Year 10 GCSE PE students ventured to Loughborough University on Tuesday 20th June to explore the number 1 sports university in the world.
After an enjoyable train journey from St Pancras International to Loughborough the students were eager and excited to see the university campus for themselves. The day begun with a welcome lecture which showcased the wide range of world class courses the university offers. This includes the elite premier league football clubs, combined honours degrees, where students study sport science along side subjects like Maths, Science and English as well as degrees with international sporting placement opportunities in America, Ireland and Australia.
This lecture was followed by an insightful discussion with student ambassadors and university lecturers about university life. The students discussed career opportunities, sports societies and living on campus at university. The highlight of the day was the afternoon campus tour shortly after a lovely outdoor barbeque lunch! We were all able to view Olympic athletes train in their indoor athletics centre and outdoor stadium, sports halls and all-weather pitches, a American football stadium, a football stadium which accommodates crowds of up to 3500, a 50-metre swimming pool, squash, badminton and netball courts, an indoor tennis centre and outdoor courts, and state-of-the-art gyms. So there certainly isn’t a reason for any student not to be physically active and fit while studying at Loughborough!
