On Wednesday 6th November, our Year 10 students participated in a dynamic devising workshop led by Company Three, a renowned youth theatre company based in Islington. Known for empowering young people to create and perform stories that reflect their experiences, Company Three runs acclaimed programs that bring young voices to the forefront of social issues. They were also scouting for their youth company, offering an exciting opportunity for our students.
The workshop introduced students to devising, a collaborative form of theatre where participants create original material from scratch, often drawing on real-life events or emotions. Our session centered around the London riots, allowing students to explore the complex social, emotional, and political themes of unrest and response.
By generating scenes and dialogues based on this stimuli, the students tapped into the powerful ways theatre can reflect and question society, preparing them well for their upcoming mock devised assessments.
