Winter Drama Showcase 2023

On the evening of Monday 18th December, Central Foundation presented its Winter Drama Showcase – ‘Frost Chronicles’, a celebration of theatre, circus and performance.

Drama club worked extensively on bringing to life 3 plays written as part of the National Theatre NewViews writing programme. These were all written by students in Year 12 as part of the competition with Ayah’s submission reaching the final 10 out of over 450 entries. It was very exciting having their ideas realised practically within the new drama space which was configured as a ‘theatre in the round’ venue.

Year 10 drama GCSE also played a significant role within the evening, and we witnessed some superb characterisation with both the monologues and small group work. We also saw a range of excerpts skillfully delivered by students from established plays such as ‘DNA’ and ‘Blood Brothers’ as well as having a selection of improvised and student own scripted pieces.

This year a group of students have worked with CiruSpace, the National Centre for Circus Arts as an extra curricular club and we were treated to some fine displays of clowning, spinning and some superb hula hoop slapstick comedy from Peace.

Congratulations to all the students for a spectacular performance, as well as to Ms Dodds and Mr Royal and the drama department for a wonderful showcase! With special thanks to the National Centre for Circus Arts, and the National Theatre for running The New Views programme.
