On Monday 2nd March, three teams of Central Foundation debaters competed in the second round of the Urban Debate League, hosted by Camden School for Girls as part of the regional Debate Mate competition.
Students from Years 7–10 tackled a range of challenging motions, including an unseen topic — This House believes that the UK government should fund UK students’ study abroad — and a prepared motion requiring extended five-minute speeches: This House believes that “stan culture” has done more harm than good.
Our teams performed exceptionally well, winning four out of the six debates they contested. As a result, we are currently ranked 10th nationally out of more than 100 schools and 6th in the London regional standings, with rankings based on our debaters’ average scores.
We’re excited to build on this success in the upcoming rounds — and encourage you to keep an eye on the leaderboard: Secondary UDL Round 1 Results 2026 – Debate Mate.
If you’re inspired to get involved, Debate Mate runs after school every Wednesday in LB08 and is open to students of all abilities. New members are always welcome!
