Sixth Form Trip to the US Embassy for the 250th Anniversary of American Independence

On Wednesday 21st January, a group of KS5 students attended an inspiring panel discussion at the US Embassy to mark the 250th anniversary of American independence. The discussion focused on the Declaration of Independence and its historical significance.

The panel brought together an impressive group of experts: Henry Wilkinson, Head of Education at Benjamin Franklin House; Alexander Lock, Lead Curator for North American Collections at the British Library; Kate Herbert, Chief Curator of the American Museum and Gardens; and Graham Moore, Records Specialist for Early Modern Parliament at The National Archives.

Year 12 student Dawud posed a thoughtful and challenging question to the panel, exploring the role of the monarchy in the creation of the Declaration of Independence. Dawud will go on to represent the school in a public speaking competition hosted at the US Embassy later in February.

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to the US Embassy for inviting us to take part in such an interesting and thought-provoking event.
