The Central Foundation Sixth Form Lecture Series was launched on Wednesday 9th October. So far we have had talks by Kate Harrison on site specific art, and Lucy Johnson, a software engineer, on web app development, hacking and cyber security.
We had a range of exciting talks lined up for the year, including a US Election special, a lecture on law and different legal systems, and a musical two-parter after Christmas from Mr Haylor. The lectures were delivered by a mixture of external guests and members of CFBS staff, and Year 12 and Year 13 students have the opportunity to attend every Wednesday lunchtime. Through the talks, they will be exposed to a huge variety of careers, interesting topics they may not have encountered, and stretching academic subjects beyond the scope of their current courses. The schedule included:
- 23rd October – Careers in the Cabinet Office
- 6th November – US Election
- 13th November – The Garden as a Metaphor in Literature
- 20th November – UK and International Legal Systems
- 27th November – Something Sociological
- 4th December – The “Troubles” of Northern Ireland: a brief history of the conflict and its consequences
- 18th December – Peak performance – how to maximise your success!
