Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra’s Visit to Central Foundation

Central Foundation was honoured to have members of the world-renowned Venezuelan Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra of Venezuela (SBSOV) visit the school on Tuesday 14th January. The Orchestra is currently in London for two exclusive performances at the Barbican. SBSOV, previously Simón Bolívar Youth Orchestra, was founded by José Antonio Abreu and a group of fellow musicians, who were inspired by the ideals of Simón Bolívar. The orchestra is comprised of over 200 young musicians between the ages of 18 and 28, and is the flagship of the orchestral academic program of the Fundación Musical “Simón Bolívar” (Fundamusical Bolívar).

They provided coaching to our String Quartets in the morning, followed by assisting in our whole Year 7 Music Assembly.

During the assembly, all of Year 7 practiced a piece of music with coaching from the SBSOV members. Students played either a viola, violin or a flute.

After the assembly, our MiSST Orchestra students worked with the SBSOV orchestra members in Side-by-Side Coaching Sessions and later performed together several pieces including Fossiles by Camille Saint-Saëns and the theme song from the Disney-Pixar movie, The Incredibles.
