On Thursday 23rd January, 27 students from Years 7 to 10 proudly represented Central Foundation Boys’ School at the prestigious Simmonds Cup, an Indoor Athletics event held at the state-of-the art Lea Valley Sports Centre. Competing against 18 of the best private and state schools in London, including hosts Dulwich College, our students showcased incredible talent, determination, and sportsmanship.
In their debut year, the Year 7s delivered an outstanding performance, finishing 3rd in their category. Samuel shone with a victory in the 400m, George claimed gold in the 200m, and the relay team of Nehmia, Samuel, George, and Amani triumphed in the 4 x 200m relay.
The Year 8s finished 6th, with notable contributions from Prince (2nd place, 60m) and Rory (2nd place, shot put). Several 3rd-place finishes, including Cairo, Zain, Anthony, and Charles in the relay, showcased their competitiveness, despite the boys feeling they had more to give.
The Year 9s secured 5th place, with standout performances including Zac’s victory in the 60m, potentially breaking a school record. Max battled fiercely in the 800m, securing 2nd place while setting a new school record of 2:17. The relay team (Rodan, Zac, Macdavid, and Joshua) finished 2nd in their heat, demonstrating resilience and some excellent relay exhanges.
In a competitive field, the Year 10s came 7th, with plenty of potential among the group. Zac’s win in the 60m heat and Zayden’s strong 3rd-place finish in the hurdles were key moments.
Central Foundation Boys’ School finished 4th overall, narrowly missing out on a podium spot behind Barking Abbey, Ark Globe, and Dulwich College. The team’s effort and attitude throughout the event were exemplary, embodying the school’s values and laying a strong foundation for the summer season.
Congratulations to all the students for their fantastic achievements and for representing the school with pride!
