On Tuesday 24th June, thirteen of our talented Year 8–10 students had the extraordinary honour of opening this year’s National Theatre Connections Festival with a live performance on the newly revamped Dorfman stage at the National Theatre, Southbank—playing to a sold-out audience of 450.
Their production of Fresh Air by Vickie Donoghue was selected as one of just a handful of winning entries from hundreds of youth theatre groups across the UK. Earlier this year, the group performed the play at the Kiln Theatre as part of the regional phase of the festival, which led to their invitation to perform on the National Theatre’s stage.
Connections is the National Theatre’s annual nationwide youth theatre festival, celebrating young talent and new writing. Each year, ten new plays are commissioned for young people to perform, giving students across the country a chance to engage with professional-standard theatre and share their voices on major stages.
