Message from the Headteacher & July 2024 Newsletter

Dear Parents/Carers,

Welcome to our final news update of the 2023-24 academic year.

I would like to thank parents and carers for all of their support of the students’ learning throughout the year.  We have seen a significant improvement in attendance and engagement throughout the year and this in turn feeds into the overall achievement of the students.  We have the highest expectations of what the students can become and achieve; and it is to their great credit the frequency with which they live up to those expectations.

Our aim is to provide all of our students with access to a broad and high-quality curriculum, including the core subjects but extending to the arts, sports and with a particular focus on the students’ individual personal development. Our commitment to such an education can be seen in the events of the final few weeks of term. Alongside the events of activities week and the trips to Spain and China, we saw many excellent and joyful end of term events, such as the drama showcase; the summer concert and the art and design exhibition.  Our sports teams continued to excel in athletics, cricket and tennis.

At the heart of a good education are great teachers.  At Central Foundation we are blessed with so many fine practitioners.  The end of this year has seen us say goodbye to four such teachers who retired after 128 years of service to the school among them; Mr Wilson, Mr Couch; Mr Goodfellow and Ms McMahon.

Teachers leaving is an inevitable, but still presents a challenge. Prior to the start of the year we run a four-day programme, for both the new Year 7 students and the teachers new to the school.  They can learn and practice together the school routines and processes.  So that both groups are ready to hit the ground running when the school starts.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you, the parents and carers, for your support of the students and the school. I wish you all a safe and happy summer holiday and I look forward to seeing you all again in September.

Best wishes,

Mr Brownhill
Headteacher
