As part of Local Democracy Week, a group of school councillors from Years 8, 9, and 10 visited Islington Town Hall on Wednesday 16th October to engage in a special ‘Question Time’ style Q&A session in the Council Chamber. The event, designed to celebrate and promote local democracy, provided an exciting opportunity for young leaders to learn about the democratic process and have their voices heard.
The panel included Kaya Comer-Schwartz, Leader of Islington Council, the Deputy Leader of Islington Council, the Executive Member for Children, Young People and Families and other local councillors.
The students participated in lively discussions, asking questions about how local decisions are made and exploring what democracy truly means. Local Democracy Week aims to foster community involvement, encouraging local people to play an active role in shaping the future of their borough.
