Lion Dance Workshop with Chung Ching Lion and Dragon Dance Association

On Wednesday 6th July, Year 7 and 8 Mandarin students have enjoyed a lion dance performance and workshop in collaboration with Chung Ching Lion and Dragon Dance Association, who performed in Trafalgar Square during Chinese New Year.

The students have thoroughly enjoyed the performance. They learned about the traditional Lion Dance and why it is important in Chinese culture.

The dance was performed in the heritage gym as children imitated a lion’s various movements, accompanied by beating drums, clashing cymbals and gongs. The visitors were impressed with the students’ Mandarin skills during the workshop.

Our Year 8 and Year 9 Mandarin students also made their own lion heads using recycled cupboard boxes. A special acknowledgement to Michael Ghebrehiwet who showed great creativity and skills in the making of his lion head. Well done!
