KS3 House Debating Competition

The KS3 House Debating competition took place on Tuesday 19th May.

Central Foundation’s Year 7 and 8 students debated the topic: ‘This House would allow school students to use artificial intelligence (AI) in their schoolwork.’

Congratulations to the proposition team who were the winners of the debate: Aren, Callum, Harry, James (Year 7) and Ezra (Year 8)!

The proposition won with arguments around the benefits of AI and how it can help students understand homework topics and patch gaps in knowledge from class independently. They explained how AI should be used to show methods towards an answer rather than asking simply for a final response. Asking it ‘how do I solve…’ instead of ‘what is the answer to..’

While understanding that AI can sometimes be unreliable (a strong rebuttal from the opposition), their argument closed with comments of how student input needs clear prompts and AI generated answers should be checked for accuracy.
