It was a real privilege to host the Islington Regional Finals of the Jack Petchey “Speak Out” Challenge here at Central Foundation Boys’ School on Tuesday 13th December. Students from schools across Islington performed three minute speeches to a panel of experienced judges. The judging panel included Henry Stewart (the Chief Happiness officer), Rich Staplehurst (Creative Director for Google), Artemis Irvine (podcast producer), and Jennifer Lau (Professor of Youth Resilience).
Jeremiah, George and Kelvin in Year 10 competed against students from Highbury Fields, St Mary Magdalene Academy, EGA and City of London Academy. Speech topics covered a range of topics including immigration, climate change, overcoming prejudice, men’s mental health and petrol cars. The judges and audience were so impressed with the confidence and articulacy demonstrated by all those who competed. They were also treated to performances from our Strings ensemble.
George did incredibly well to achieve second place, runner up to Emma from Highbury Fields.
