Wednesday 5th March was another fantastic afternoon out with the students proudly representing CFBS and embodying all of our values brilliantly.
Their C team teacher summed it up perfectly: “This has been an absolute pleasure.”
A wonderful moment unfolded at the end of the game when their manager gathered both teams for a ‘moment of the match’ review. The Mill Hill captain led on a ‘three cheers’ for Central. Unsure how to respond, Zayn (Year 7) decided to lead on giving Mill Hill the ‘Central clap’, executing it to perfection.
As – 1-1 Draw
Conceding inside the first five minutes tested the resilience and character of the A team as they look to push on towards the end of the season. Kurt levelled the score in the second half with a well-taken first-time finish across the keeper in a game with very few clear-cut chances. It was a closely contested match, and a draw was a fair result. A solid run-out for the boys as they now look ahead to the next round of the Islington & Camden Cup, where they face UCL.
Bs – 5-2 Won
Amani (2), Nehmia (2), and Konrad all found the net as the Bs made it three wins from three, following an outstanding second-half performance. Trailing 1-2 at half-time, Mr Pickford lifted the boys’ spirits, and a couple of tactical changes led to four second-half goals. Man of the match and 200m specialist Amani was instrumental, scoring two and assisting another two in a dominant display.
Cs – 1-4 Lost
Managed by sixth formers Taylor M. and Luis W., the Cs showed perseverance and fought hard in an evenly matched contest. Coming into their fifth game of the season on the back of an excellent 4-1 win over City of London, they found themselves up against a keeper in top form, pulling off five outstanding saves to keep them at bay. Two goals in quick succession ultimately put the game out of reach as the Cs searched for an equaliser. Next up: Habadashers’ Hatcham College.
Ds – 1-2 Lost
After securing a 1-0 victory over City of London, complete with a clean sheet, the Ds came into the game full of confidence. They started brightly but were denied by another impressive performance from the Mill Hill keeper. Chayse managed to halve the deficit by closing down the keeper, rounding him, and slotting home—his air guitar celebration with the corner flag was one of the highlights of the afternoon. Despite a late push for an equaliser, including a series of corners that clipped the outside of the post, the game ended 1-2. A strong showing from the boys, who, like the Cs, now travel to Habadashers’ Hatcham College.
Es – 1-1 Draw
The Es were left scratching their heads at how this one ended 1-1. With an xG of 12.6, they simply didn’t have their shooting boots on, much to the frustration of their sixth form manager, Abdul C. Despite dominating the game, they fell behind 0-1 before Ad-Din found a way back into the match. At that point, it felt inevitable they would push on for the win—especially after netting seven in their previous game—but it wasn’t to be. A frustrating result, but an enjoyable afternoon nonetheless.
