On Monday 26th January, a group of 18 students from across KS3 and KS4 took part in the first round of the Urban Debate League. The competition was held at Sacred Heart RC School in South London and attended by students from 10 other schools across the city.

Organised by Debate Mate, the event marked the first of several debating competitions taking place throughout the year and built on the skills students have been developing through their weekly Debating Club sessions.
Students participated in two debates: “This House Believes that sets in schools should be abolished” and “This House Believes that the digital world has done more harm than good.” Across our three teams, we won four out of our six debates — a fantastic achievement, particularly for our novice teams.
Debate Club runs weekly: Mondays for KS5, Tuesdays for KS3, and Wednesdays for KS3 and KS4. New members are always welcome — please come along!
