On Monday 30th October, we had a workshop led by Company Three who were recruiting from our GCSE Drama cohort and selected key stage 3 students to join their company. In the workshop, they focused on characterisation exercises, improvisation and physical theatre.
Based in Islington, Company three is a leading force for change for teenagers in our local community and around the world, through collaboration between young people and professional theatre-makers. They give teenagers the power to tell their own stories and create their own change; to be listened to, understood and celebrated.
Their plays have been performed at the National Theatre, Battersea Arts Centre, the Royal Exchange Theatre, the Yard Theatre and on the BBC. They are a company led by the ideas of 75 members aged 11-19 and recruit member through deep rooted relationships locally, in hopes to share their practice globally to impact teenagers everywhere.
It is a privilege to work so closely with a company who believe that “youth theatre can be a place of community, radical art and social change and despite their global reach, we are fiercely local to and are proud to work with the young people of Islington about the issues which affect them most!”.
