Physical activity and sport forms an integral part of the educational experience of all pupils at Central Foundation Boys’ School.
The school has a covered Astroturf pitch, a gymnasium, a sports hall and a fitness suite. We also make use of a broad range of local facilities including, Finsbury Leisure Centre, Ironmonger Row Baths and the Copper Box Arena.
As a school we offer an outstanding and varied extra-curricular programme with opportunities for all students to engage within our sporting provision. The activities on offer and the range of competition levels we compete in ensures all students have access to developing their sporting ability. These activities include: athletics, basketball, boxing, climbing, cricket, fencing, fitness, football, gymnastics, rock climbing, and table-tennis.
Our provision is split into three programmes: Participation, Aspiration and Performance.
Participation is aimed at students who are interested in finding a physical activity they will learn to love, develop and participate in for the rest of their lives. This allows students who aren’t necessarily interested in competing competitively to engaged in some form of exercise.
Aspiration offers students to take their skill set to a more challenging level. Our A-team and B-Team inter-house competitions are designed for students who want to play competitively but not particularly interested in representing the schoo. Pupils that wish to, will get the opportunity to represent the schools’ B & C teams should they continue to attend training; equality of experience is key.
Finally, Performance based students are able to compete in regional and national competitions in a wide range of sports. Fixture cards are tailored to ability, with the pupils in the ‘A’ teams having access to highly competitive matches where the challenge is greater, allowing pupils to strive for the best of their ability. Fortnightly performance analysis sessions and team meetings also take place for students in these teams.
