CFBS Power Their Way To National Honours in National Indoor Rowing Championships

Central Foundation recently made waves at the National Indoor Rowing Championships, where they achieved remarkable success in a highly competitive field of schools and rowing clubs from all across the country.

Hosted at Kings School in Rochester, The boys participated in both individual and team relay events, demonstrating not only their strength but also their determination and teamwork.

The standout achievements:

  • Year 8 Relay Team: The Year 8 team made history by claiming 1st place, dominating the competition with a remarkable 9-second lead over the closest team. This win marks CFBS’s first-ever national title in indoor rowing.  The team, consisting of Rory, Thomas, Leith, and Anthony, completed their 2000-meter race in an impressive 6 minutes and 59 seconds. The team beat off 147 other schools and rowing clubs to lift the title.
  • Rory : Rory (y8) showcased his incredible power and dedication by securing 2nd place in the national individual event. Despite missing out on 1st place by just 7 meters, his performance was nothing short of spectacular.
  • Year 10 Relay Team: The Year 10 team placed 5th nationally, an improvement from last year, when they finished 8th. Their strong performance was highlighted by winning their race that also included a number of year 12 crews.
  • Individual success: Freddie (y10) Leonardo(y7), John (y10), James(y10) and Zed(y9) all made the top 100 nationally. The boys raced remarkably well with little experience. All 16 boys who raced represented the school incredibly well and we were very proud of their efforts and achievements.

Central Foundation has made significant strides in rowing over the past few years. We started working with London Youth Rowing in 2022 who have helped us enhance our programme with group sessions and equipment all being provided for us.

We now look forward to our outdoor sessions that will be taking place in the summer term on the Thames.
