We were delighted to hold the inaugural CFBS Composition Competition on Monday 12th May. The final stage featured 6 students, who were tasked with writing a string quartet based around the notes C-F-B-S (e-flat). This was then performed and workshopped by our resident staff string quartet, featuring Ms. Benavent, Mr. Tay, Ms. Stefańska and Mr. Sibley.
We were very fortunate to welcome Ben Nobuto (a Royal Philharmonic Society award winner, whose compositions have recently been performed at the Proms) to be the adjudicator.
The students were praised for their original compositional ideas, and forward-thinking harmonic language. With an incredibly high standard overall, the eventual winners were Elliot and Nathan who shared first prize.
