Our Year 7 and 8 pupils (ages 11-13) have qualified for the second round of the prestigious English Schools Cup.
The English Schools organisation was first established in 1925 and the Schools Cup competition was first held just 1 year later, in 1926. At almost a century old, it stands as the longest established national schools’ athletics competition in England and much of its original rules and regulations are still used today.
Hundreds of top sports schools submit teams every year. Each school can submit a junior (Year 7 & 8) and a senior (Year 9 & 10) team to the competition and each athlete must complete two events for their school. No athlete can do more or less than two events (1 track & 1 field). These stringent rules are what make the schools cup so fascinating. The many elite sports schools entering the competition make for a brilliant challenge when looking to qualify through each round and Central Foundation having made the semi-finals means they will be competing with the country’s very best.
