Basketball Report

Basketball continues to go from strength to strength at Central Foundation, with teams across the year groups showing excellent commitment, development and competitiveness this season. So far, 66 players have represented the school in basketball this year, highlighting the sport’s growing popularity and depth.

The Year 7 team have been training hard in preparation for the Junior NBA campaign, which begins on 4 February, and this work has already been reflected in positive performances. Friendly victories against Clapton and Westminster have provided valuable preparation and confidence heading into the competition.

The Year 8 team have made an impressive start to their season, recording three wins from four fixtures so far. Victories against Cardinal Pole, Norwood and Cardinal Pole have highlighted the team’s progress and teamwork, leaving them well placed as they head into their Junior NBA campaign.

The Year 9 team competed in a highly challenging national competition and were unfortunate to exit after a series of narrow defeats. A thrilling overtime loss to City of London was a standout fixture and a fantastic spectacle, followed by close defeats of 43–38 and 48–43. Despite the disappointment, the team secured a strong 41–23 win over Globe Academy. While the group will feel frustrated not to progress further, there is no doubt this was a team capable of going deeper in the competition.

The Year 10 team continue to go from strength to strength and have demonstrated an excellent work ethic throughout the season. Currently unbeaten this year, the squad’s quality is further underlined by the fact that multiple players are also representing the Year 11 team, reflecting strong individual development and depth within the group.

There is lots to look forward to as the season continues, with many tournaments and fixtures planned across all year groups. Overall, there is a great deal of positivity around basketball at CFBS, with players and coaches all excited for the challenges ahead.
