Industry Links

The school prides itself on the many links it has built up with City businesses in the last few years.

Business education has become one of the most important areas of the curriculum at GCSE and A levels. In these courses and in other subjects many real life situations are introduced using the expertise of local businesses as often as possible.

We also hold three special business days each year for Year 9, 10 and 11 pupils. These events help to make students aware of opportunities in the workplace and prepare students to make the most of them.

Among the companies that have been involved with the school in the last year are the following:

Innovation and Development

Slaughter and May
We have a well-established relationship with this international law firm. They have provided UCAS mentoring and Customer Service role plays for our students. Our students have also taken part in their Lawyers in School project, Year 12 Economics and Business Enterprise project and the UCAS project.

Fredericks Restaurant
The organisation taught front of house skills to our Hospitality students and trained them how to serve food and drink.

Jamie Oliver’s 15
The restaurant trained our Hospitality students how to cook.

Goldman Sachs 
Hospitality students used their restaurants to learn about catering services.

Dorchester Hotel 
Students were educated about room service and portering / cleaning duties.

Capco (Global Financial Consultants)
The organisation were guest speakers on HR, Finance, Marketing at the school. Our students took part in their Recruitment and Training assignment as part of their BTEC Business course. Mock interviews were held at their offices, for students to gain vital interviewing skills, and our students were involved in their Enterprise project.

Sukhdip Bhupal (Panasonic Marketing Director)
The Managing Director was an Economics and Business A level guest speaker.

Marketing and Sales Unit
Students from vocational business courses set up and run small companies selling products on White Cross Market as part of Islington Social enterprise challenge. Last year the students sold perfumes, this year the students sold food.

Young Consumer of the Year Competition
Students from Year 10 and 12 compete across the borough. Our students have been national and London finalists the last 3 years.

Trading standards
Year 11 students volunteered to help Islington Trading standards officers identify alcohol and knives being sold to young people.

City workshops with the City Brokerage
Groups of Year 10 and Year 12 students visited UBS and Barclays to discover how the City works and the job roles there.

Arsenal Football Club
Business Diploma students carried out a unit on Customer Service which involved them assessing how Arsenal develops Customer Service. The school piloted their Arsenal in the Community case studies and 2 students presented at the launch of their Arsenal in the Community Programme.

Jake Goretzki
Mr Goretzki has been a Market Research guest speaker for A level Economics and Business.

Business Innovation and Skills Department
Students met Vince Cable and did a workshop on Business and Science.

In addition, numerous local business representatives have judged the Year 9 Enterprise Day.
