The twelve scholars with their graduation certificates

In early February, 12 pupils from Year 8 visited Cambridge University for a special day trip.

The 12 students involved have all participated in the Scholar’s Programme. The programme is provided by The Brilliant Club, a charity that exists to widen access to highly selective universities. As part of their course, they had six tutorial sessions with an Oxford PhD philosophy student and were taught at a Key Stage above their Year group.

The course concluded with each pupil writing a 1,500 word essay answering the question, “Do the ends justify the means?” which was marked in a university format by their tutor.

The group were taken on a tour of Cambridge University

The pupils attended their graduation event from the programme at Corpus Christi, Cambridge. During the graduation, they enjoyed a presentation about the college and the university from a postgraduate student, went on a tour of the college with a current undergraduate before being awarded their graduation certificates. All of the pupils gained a 2:1, except for James Keegan and Michael Connelly who both achieved a first class award.
