Central held St Aloysius at bay by four runs to win their second match in as many weeks

The U13 cricket team recorded back-to-back victories in pursuit of the U13 Islington Cricket League championship.

In the penultimate week of June, they faced Holloway who batted first. Although Central Foundation’s bowling took a very strong nine wickets, it was at a cost of 79 runs setting the team a high score to beat.

In their batting innings, Central Foundation lost two wickets for one run. However Year 8′s Thomas, who had taken three wickets when bowling, and Daniel took the team almost all the way to victory with a 78-run stand before Daniel was caught. With seven wickets left in play, Central Foundation easily scored the remaining run to win the match.

The following week the team met St Aloysius and this time were sent into bat first. With six wickets taken throughout the 14 over game, most of the team contributed towards the 90-6.

St Aloysius, on the other hand, started with a strong opening partnership but after 22 runs they came unstuck as four wickets fell, including a run out. Year 7′s Francis took a wicket in this flurry and displayed economic bowling at the end, leaving St Aloysius requiring 11 runs from the last two overs and eight runs from the final over.

Thomas, the captain, bowled the final over with every outcome possible from the final throw. In the final moment of the match, Thomas produced a dot ball to secure a thrilling Central Foundation win by four runs.
