On Friday 26th April, 10 students from Year 10 ICT were invited to Google for a dynamic careers event led by companies from different branches of technology.

Emily Thornberry, MP for Islington South & Finsbury, nominated Central Foundation to attend the day at Google’s Campus London. A seven-storey building in Tech City dedicated to technology start-up businesses, Campus London celebrated its first anniversary by inspiring children with opportunities in the IT industry and entrepreneurship.

Central Foundation’s enviable location on Silicon Roundabout, the heart of Tech City, provides its students with a tremendous opportunity to tap into local business start-ups, be involved in high profile events such as these and get a head start in forming links with future employers.

The students worked with companies from the visual effects, video games and space industry sectors, mixed with like-minded teens and learnt about the emerging digital economy.

During the day there was a competition for schools to design an app to use on smartphones. The Central Foundation students’ art-inspired phone app was chosen over the other schools’ entries. As a prize for their innovation and creativity, each pupil won a new Raspberry Pi laptop.
