Sports round-up

November 14th, 2018

Sport and physical activity is an important part of daily life at Central Foundation. To ensure everyone can participate at some level, the PE department offers a wide variety of sports both in lessons and extra-curricular clubs. Below is an update recent sporting achievements:

The Year 7 team are currently second in the Hackney and Tower Hamlets League, losing for the first time this past Saturday. They have recently progressed with a 5-0 win the Islington & Camden Cup, meaning they are still in contention for four trophies this season. The Year 8 team were knocked out of the Inner London Cup by Woolwich Polytechnic after the game went to penalties. Like the Year 7s, they are unbeaten in all but one league game. The Year 11 team have progressed to the quarter-finals of the Islington & Camden Cup with a 1-0 victory over St Aloysius.

Cross Country

Despite tough weather conditions at the St Aloysius Playing Fields, a number of boys placed in the top ten for middle-distance runs in the Key Stage 3 team. This, combined with a top 3 finish for the Key Stage 4 team means that both teams are 3rd in the league standings for their groups. Central Foundation are the only school to field a B team for both groups, both of whom are currently 7th in the league.

Table Tennis

The Key Stage 3 team won the Islington and Camden Table Tennis Championship after a 4-2 victory against City of London Academy Highbury Grove. Due to their success, they are representing the borough at the London Youth Games. Unfortunately the Key Stage 4 team just missed out on a medal, placing fourth at the championship.

The Key Stage 3 team learnt a lot at their first badminton tournament, playing in both singles and doubles and securing a third place.

Good luck to all the boys in their upcoming competitions.
