Plenty of gold, silver and bronze medals were awarded on the day

Monday 15th June saw Year 7 – 9 compete in Central Foundation Boys’ School’s annual Sports Day competition at Finsbury Park athletics track.

The entire lower school descended on the full size athletics track in North London’s Finsbury Park on Monday to compete in a mixture of track and field events. As well as a number of different distance races (100m, 200m, 300m, 400m and 800m as well as the 2000m walk and relay events), the boys competed in long jump, high jump, triple jump, shotput and javelin.

Pupils competed in high jump as well as long jump and triple jump

With an increase in forms this year, this meant at least eight pupils competed in each event which increased the number of competitors and the amount of participation in the sports.

Across the day, three individual school records were broken, and all by boys who set records in the previous year’s Sports Day. In javelin Dean Humphrey, who last year set the Year 8 record at 30.95 metres, broke a 1992 record by throwing 36.4 metres.

There were a number of photo finishes on the running track

Year 8′s Zakariya Thain broke walked the 2000m in 11:51, a 36 second improvement on the 2011 record. Also in Year 8 Sadik Mohamed ran the 800m in 2:25, 20 seconds faster than second place and five seconds faster than the 2009 record he broke.
