Public speaking workshops

October 16th, 2015

Each boy spoke multiple times throughout the day in front of the class

Yesterday, Year 9 English pupils were involved in a day-long public speaking workshop led by the Jack Petchey Foundation.

The Jack Petchey Foundation was established by Eastender Jack Petchey and aims to raise the aspirations of young people, to help them take advantage of opportunities and play a full part in society. The workshops are intended to raise their aspirations by improving their confidence through experience of talking in front of people and to learn techniques used by experienced speakers. During the day every boy in the group spoke in front of the others. After each boy gave an initial speech, the workshop focussed individually on style, structure and then content to develop the boys’ speaking style and learn how to improve their oratory piece by piece. The school will continue to emphasise the importance of public speaking later on in the year when the four school Houses compete in the Inter-House Public Speaking Competition.
