The Sixth Form students gained an insight into ICT in the working world

In early May, Year 12 ICT students visited a telecommunications company to explore their potential career options after completing their BTEC.

On 3 May, five Sixth Form students who study ICT were invited to visit Inmarsat, a satellite telecommunications company that provides global mobile services for governments, aid agencies, businesses and media outlets. While touring the building, the students saw the Network Operations Centre in action, learning how it co-ordinates a number of different network activities. They were also shown how it helps with launching satellites into space.

After the tour, Dominic Potts from the Service IT department delivered a lecture which gave an insight into his typical working week with the company. He also revealed his own professional journey, how he moved from school to work and how his passion for IT at an early age led to his chosen career and the decisions.

The visit was organised by Ms Burdy Murray, Business and Facilities Coordinator who is also arranging work experience placements in IT for those students who attended.
