 Islington Youth Council

Last month, 39 young people came along to the Islington youth council information session to collect their application pack and to find out what being a youth councillor is all about, and had the opportunity to ask any questions they may have about the role.

As well as hearing from the Mayor of Islington, Cllr Richard Watts, Executive Member for Children and Families, and some Young Advisers from Lewisham, they took part in sessions with staff to go through the application process.

Thanks to all the young people who attended. This is an exciting new initiative, which will give them a chance to have their say by – among other ways – influencing how money is spent on services for them. By standing as a youth councillor, they’ll learn loads and get great experiences, which will look really good on their CV.

The deadline to apply to stand as a candidate in February’s youth council election has ended but there are many ways they can still be involved in decision making in the borough. If they are interested please encourage them to complete the online form at: http://www.islington.gov.uk/childrens-and-families/cs-things-to-do/youth-council/questions/too_late.asp, contact youthcouncil@islington.gov.uk or call 020 7527 2552.
