House of Lords visit

June 30th, 2015

Younes, Seven, Andrew and Yousuf with Chair of Trustees Leslie Griffiths

Two months ago, four Year 10 and 11 boys stayed after school to attend a guest lecture by historian Hugh Gault on the subject of Central Foundation alumnus and former Chancellor of the Exchequer Sir Kingsley Wood.

The lecture was also attended by Chair of Trustees Leslie Griffiths. As well as being the Chair of Trustees and and Methodist Minister at Wesley’s Chapel, he sits in the House of Lords as Lord Griffiths of Burry Port.

Having noted their interest in politics, Lord Griffiths invited the four boys – Younes, Seven, Andrew and Yousuf – to the House of Lords last week. This included a tour of the building that the boys described as fascinating and behind the scenes access granted to them by Lord Griffiths.

At the end of the tour, the boys were able to sit in and observe Question Time in the Lords, learning a lot about the political processes in the UK.
