Founder’s Day

November 30th, 2011

Reggie Yates giving his speech

Last Friday the school celebrated its annual Founder’s Day. On this day the school remembers the work of our founder, Rev William Rogers, and celebrates the hard work and achievements of our students throughout the year. Prizes are awarded to students for excellence and improvement, as well as individual subject awards.

The day began with an address from our Headteacher Mr Brownhill, a speech by the Chair of Governors Mr Gurney and remarks from our Head Boy Osadebamwen Erhabor. Following this Andrew Li, who was later awarded Musician of the Year KS3, performed an amazing piano solo of Fantasie Impromptu by Frederic Chopin.

This year we were honoured to welcome TV presenter and DJ Reggie Yates, who was a student at Central Foundation Boys’ School 12 years ago. Reggie is best known for presenting Top of the Pops with Fearne Cotton and the chart show on BBC Radio 1. For Founder’s Day Reggie not only presented the prizes to winners but also gave a motivational speech about his fond memories at the school and his impressive career to date.

We are proud of all our prize winners. However, we would like to take the opportunity to give particular mention to Otto Sumray and Mohammed Hussan for academic achievement, Elliot Colley and Tahmid Chowdhury for their services to the community and Idris Sobande for his services as last year’s Head Boy.

The day concluded with the school Choir and 75 piece orchestra performing Gloria by Antonio Vivaldi to rapturous applause. We would like to thank all those involved in the ceremony, notably Head Boy Osadebamwen, for serving as a true ambassador for the school and alumni Reggie for inspiring our students.
