Entrepreneur Lecture

November 7th, 2014

The four speakers having a discussion with the pupils

On the first week of November, Central Foundation welcomed four entrepreneurs, who had all founded their own businesses in different fields, to deliver a guest lecture to Year 10 boys.

The event was organised in conjunction with Founders 4 Schools, who want to promote entrepreneurial attitudes in secondary schools. The guests included Debbie Wosskow, CEO of Love Home Swap; Nick Francis, Creative Director of Casual Films Ltd; David White, who founded internet data service Import.IO Ltd and Alicia Navarro, CEO of Skimlinks, a company who manage online content monetisation.

The lecture was given after school with over 50 business pupils from Year 10 staying until after 5pm to hear from the entrepreneurs. The speakers gave their personal stories behind how they came up with their business ideas and the method in which they made them successful, allowing pupils to compare each business and identify what common methods between all of them worked and led to a sustainable, growing business.

The theme of success recurred throughout the night, with one speaker saying “Be the best, but always try to better the process of being the best” while another gave their five lessons for success:

1) Love learning
2) Learn your craft
3) Ask for help
4) Start young
5) Be the best (and eat your vegetables)
