Thursday May 17th 2012: “Corrigan Shield Final”

“Central Foundation School shared the Year Eight district cup with St Aloysius after a battling display at the Emirates Stadium. The boys from the school in Cowper Street, Finsbury came back from behind to draw the Corrigan Shield final, which was played on the hallowed Emirates turf. Some fine saves from keeper Edgar Paxicato kept Central in the game in the first half, but they conceded early after the break. However, Romeo Akinola then set up Josh Garrett to equalise, and although St Aloysius again took the lead, Central Foundation levelled it up at 2-2 with a fine individual effort from Darnell Goather-Braithwaite, and the sides shared the trophy afterwards. “I’m really proud of how far the boys have come since year seven,” said the team manager Daniel Wood. “Last year we lost out to St Aloysius and the team’s development through the league games this year is a real credit to the boys.”"
