DebateMate Showcase

Central Foundation Boys’ School’s star debating students Elliot Colley and George Benson, both Year 9, were invited by national debating programme Debate Mate to showcase their skills to group of lawyers at Deutsche Bank. Elliot and George are part of the team who were finalists in Debate Mate’s national competition last term.

During this ‘learn and lunch’ session at Deutsche Bank our students debated the motion; this house is against interracial adoption. They opposed students from St. Angela’s Ursuline School, who were the winners of last year’s Debate Mate competition .

After a heated debate, and posing some complex questions, the lawyers chose the side they felt gave the best argument, attempting to leave their personal opinion out of the decision. Most agreed that Central Foundation Boys’ School were the strongest team and they won the debate.

Our students and continuing to improve their ability to debate and form arguments, both within and outside of the classroom, through these frequent opportunities provided by the Debate Mate programme.  The school debate club continues to run every Wednesday after school and is an excellent chance to develop your public speaking skills.
